Set in 32 acres of park and farm land, Mudchute is one of Europe’s biggest urban farms. The main attraction is the equestrian centre - a riding school with an all-weather arena and show jumps. Yee-Haa! The farm itself is relatively compact with some of the animals just wandering about in the fields, whilst the residents of Pets’ Corner include a large flock of handsome white ducks and canaries. Mudchute also hosts several events from crafting to exercise boot camps, whilst its also very popular with ad hoc joggers too. There’s also a greenhouse full of seasonal veggies grown by local children at after-school clubs.
Mudchute farm is the perfect day out for all the family. It's free to wander around, and for a small fee for animal food the kids will love feeding the sheep, goats, lamas and donkeys and don’t forget to take nuts for the squirrels . If you fancy making your trip a proper day out, Mudchute also has a popular café serving breakfasts, lunches, tea & coffee with nice benches outside - the perfect place to chill.
Mudchute is also a great place for a date, that won’t break the bank. Nice, quiet and romantic - I know it doesn’t sound it, er, “A day at the farm, luv?” - but let me set the scene……picture you and that special person grabbing a couple of Boris bikes riding straight to the duck pond where you feed the ducks together or maybe visit Stevie Wonder the Goat (he likes red cabbage), take a picnic blanket, cop a squat and enjoy the amazing views. When have you ever been to a farm with a view of the London’s tallest sky scrapers? I’ve never seen a view like this, fascinating really.
Looking for something rewarding to do with your spare time and don’t mind getting a little muddy? maybe a little volunteering would interest you. I noticed on Sunday there were lots of volunteers helping with the gardening and caring for the animals. If you’re new to the area it could be a perfect opportunity to make some new friends.
Sometimes the hustle and bustle of working in London can get a bit overwhelming so having relaxing day at Mudchute Park & Farm could be just what you need.
Happy Farming guys!
