Water - Canary Wharf is contained within one of the River Thames’ biggest loops, so there is water everywhere – you’re more or less surrounded by it. Without getting all hippy-dippy on you, there are studies which suggest living near water can have a positive effect on your mental and physical health, or, in our own words – its very peaceful, and because its so open here there’s lots of fresh air.
Parks - Many are struck by how clean the streets of Canary Wharf are compared to the rest of London (and the reason for that is that the Canary Wharf Estate is looked after by the Canary Wharf Group itself, and not the local council), but what’s most surprising is how many green and open spaces there are here. Just a 10-15 minute walk away from Canary Wharf are the hidden gems of Mudchute Park & Farm and Millwall Park.
Bars & Restaurants – There’s no Michelin stars here, but, we do have variety. Japanese, French, Spanish, American, Indian, Mexican, er, Scottish, Italian, modern British, Argentinian and Chinese (some of best in London we’d suggest), we love grub in Canary Wharf. And although our bars might be more ‘suit’ than ‘Shoreditch’ there’s some liquid gems too.
Shopping – Oxford Street it is not, and nor is it Westfield, but the quality and variety of shops in Canary Wharf is so much better than it used to be. Whether you’re looking for mid-range or high-end fashion, gym attire, a bike, electricals, chocolates or jewellery – Canary Wharf has it all. We’re also home to the UK’s largest Waitrose.
Transport – OK, so we’ve just told you why you should live here, and we’re just about to tell you how to go elsewhere (the irony isn’t lost in us), but Canary Wharf is one of the most well connected places in London. The Jubilee line has Stratford and Westfield just four stops away to the east, or travel west and you’re at Bond Street in 20 minutes. And don’t forget the DLR either. Bank is a direct connection on the DLR and only 10 mins away depending on where you get on. And don’t forget Crossrail is coming soon in 2018.
